The church I attend in Nashville NC owns a Lustron home. We are looking to remove the interior walls to provide a large space for meetings and the such.
From everything I see, it appears the trusses bear only on the exterior walls and have no weight bearing on the interior walls. Can someone confirm this?
This home will still be safe with the interior walls removed?
It is ashame to alter this home at all, but the growing need for space has forced us to do something. I would much rather see the home altered than torn down.
Thanks for any helpful words,
Mike

Jesus will hate you if you modify a lustron house. Seriously, sell it to someone who wants it and buy another place. Pray on it.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe Dave is concerned with the preservation of a potential building of historical significance, hence the name of this web-site Lustron “PRESERVATION”. These homes are very unique & due to design & materials, once “modified” can never go back. In Tyndall, SD there is a prime example of what NOT to do. The exterior walls have been “opened up” to add additional insulation many screws & hooks in the walls, windows replaced with vinyls, pocket doors replaced with wooden pockets & even a wooden swinging for the bathroom. The entertainment center has a screw hole going through it & the vanity mirror behind it. Paint, wallpaper, floors & the list goes on. This particular home will never be eligible for being listed on the National Register for Historical Places & will be condemned to a life as a “cheap rental unit”.

Whoever split the manual up like this is not very nice. I have a 136 MB PDF I downloaded *all at once*. You should give the visitor the choice of single pages OR the whole manual.
